Cotswolds

After Bath we did a drive through the beautiful Cotswolds. First stop was a little place called Tetbury. We had a drink at a pub called the Snooty Fox which is the one with all the flags!

Tetbury is also famous because it is very close to Prince Charles' Highgrove Estate and there is a Highgrove store in the village selling lots of homewares, garden supplies and Royal memorabilia.

That night we stayed at a place called Eynsham Hall which is close to the village of Witney.

Now, I have to confess we did not stay IN Eynsham Hall. But we did have breakfast in the library and sat in front of the huge log fire in the entry hall while having a wine each evening. The gardens were beautiful with lots of topiary and statues.

Next day we did a drive of the northern end of the Cotswolds, stopping off at a village called Burford.  It is a picture postcard village with some beautiful thatch roofed cottages.

Some of the buildings are Tudor and possibly not the most architecturally sound. Check out the lean on some of the shops!

Next stop was Burton on the Water - reputedly the Venice of the Cotswolds!

It was a small but picturesque village and one of the local pubs sold Hobglobin! We did a tour of the Hobgoblin brewery in Witney earlier in the morning.

Last stop was a place called Chipping Campden.  It was probably my favourite of all the places we stopped in the Cotswolds.

Chipping Campden is a market town - so bigger than a village and with a covered market.  It's a bit like Berry in NSW.

The town was very ordered and there were lots more sandstone buildings than we had seen in other villages. We stopped for a wine in a lovely little pub and ironically the girl behind the bar while born in the UK, lived most of her teenage years in Noosa Heads!

We thoroughly recommend visiting the Cotswolds and in hindsight we wished we had stayed a night in Chipping Campden.  There was also a fantastic store there which sold beautiful stainless steel knives, cutlery, candelabra and homewares all designed by a local called Robert Welch! If I'd had room I would have bought something - the bonus is they have an online store.
